Lahanosalata made it's debut at my sister Brooklynne's exquisite bridal shower. Partnering with my sister Alexandra Joy, of Pink & Honey Event Styling, we were blessed to honor our younger sister and celebrate her upcoming wedding!
This cabbage based Greek Salad melded beautifully with our appetizer-style menu,
ideal for a late afternoon gathering.
Bhakti Chai, travelled all the way from it's Boulder, Colorado home, keeping Canadian guests warm with delicious spicy ginger and cardamom flavors.
A Dark Chocolate Crepe Cake provided a grand focal point and the perfect culinary finish.
The inspiration to include Lahanosalata originated from a new favorite cookbook of mine, "Recipes from the Root Cellar" by Andrea Chesman. Highlighting winter vegetables, her recipes are simple yet deeply satisfying and nourishing, perfect for everyday cooking and special moments.
A love for Mediterranean food is rooted deep in me, thanks to our Greek heritage.
Meet Yiayia. Isn't she adorable!
Lahanosalata
Juice of 1 lemon (3-4 Tbs)
3 Tbs olive oil
1 small head napa cabbage, thinly sliced or shredded
1/2 red onion, finely minced
1/2 cup kalamata olives, roughly chopped
1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
2 tsp dried dill
salt and pepper to taste
Whisk lemon juice and olive oil in a large bowl. Add cabbage and onion and toss to coat. Add olives, feta and dill and stir gently to combine. Salt and pepper to taste and garnish with a sprinkling of dill. Let the salad to stand for 30 minutes before serving, allowing the flavors to marinate.
This simple salad was a favorite dish at the shower providing a fresh alternative to heavy holiday food. Cabbage remains crispy when tossed with the dressing, making this an excellent choice to serve at a function.
Carey Shaw captured the shower details so beautifully that I can't help but share a gallery for your viewing pleasure. Begin by meeting the bride & groom to be....congratulations Michael & Brooklynne!
Thank you to our guests for contributing to the joy of the afternoon and to God for His faithfulness known in so many ways. We love you Brooklynne!
